Mark's World Famous Oatmeal

Bring to a boil:
- 4 cups cold water
- Pinch of salt

Add 1 cup steel-cut oats
Stir for about 20 seconds
Lower heat, cover (I leave lid partially off), and simmer for 23 minutes

Add:
- Handful of raisins
- Handful of hulled sunflower seeds
- Handful of sliced almonds
- Maple syrup to taste (I use about 2 Tbsp)
- Fig paste or jam (I use 1 generous Tbsp)

Stir, break up the fig if there are large chunks, simmer another 5 minutes

Additional Notes:
- Keeps well in the refrigerator for days, and makes for a great quick breakfast
- I also like to reduce the oatmeal slightly and add cracked farro in place of it, to change it up sometimes
- McCann's Steel-Cut Irish Oatmeal has great flavor, but bulk steel-cut oats are way cheaper, and at least 80% as good
